INTRODUCTION TO DANIEL ARSHMAN
Daniel Arsham is a contemporary artist born in 1980 and raised in Miami, Florida.
Drawing from architecture, design and everyday experience, his Future Relic series proffers a futuristic vision of Earth before and after major ecological changes, envisioning a world where the mass-market products of today are uncovered as the archaeological discoveries of tomorrow.
Arsham is represented by Galerie Perrotin in Paris, Hong Kong, and NYC, Moran Bondaroff in LA, Baró Galeria in São Paolo and Pippy Houldsworth Gallery in London. His work has been shown at galleries around the world, including MoMA PS1 in New York, Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami and Carré d’Art de Nîmes in France.
adidas Originals presents the third and final chapter of the collaborative project with Daniel Arsham – ’Hourglass’, a short film exploring the artist’s fascination with identity and experience through the lens of cultural ephemera. Once again taking the audience on a journey of discovery, intrigue and exploration, the third film is a continuation of the narrative turning its attention to the ‘Future’ to explore the relationship between art and chaos whilst revealing details of his collaboration with adidas Originals and the third sneaker in the series. Part-documentary, part-work of fiction, ‘Hourglass’ is a film told in three parts depicting the past, present, and future.
The three-part collaboration between adidas Originals and Daniel Arsham was a first for the brand with a visual artist.
The limited edition collaboration product consisted of three chapters, past, present and future. The product and creative concept has taken consumers on a journey through a constructed narrative, adding value to purchase. The product has always been the souvenir.
Each release has been accompanied by a thematically-related short film, revealing what it is part of a larger story. The project has been an interactive journey for collectors, culminating in a full narrative film made up of three chapters, and an interactive collector experience. For FW18, we close the series with “Future”.
